2016 Friendship Walk Update…Thank You… Thank You…Thank You!

Such an amazing turnout on Saturday, June 18 for our 2016 Friendship Walk.  How wonderful to see such happy faces on friends, both old and new, as everyone gathered to enjoy a day of family and fun in support of Nova’s Ark.  Our walker with the most pledges was Trey B. who won a 3 hr Saturday visit at Nova’s Ark for 10 people.  To all those who gave pledges and walked with us – you have truly made a difference!

Our official count on the day of the Walk was $21,490.20, which included a generous  donation from Insurance Brokers of Durham Region Incorporated…but our number kept rising!  So after tallying several pledges that came in after the Walk, and receiving an AMAZING donation from Dave Mercer’s Casting for a Cure: 2016 Angler/New Angler Tournament,  we are thrilled to announce that our our new total is: $43,964.57!!!!!

We are overwhelmed with the support from our community, and so grateful to each and every person who has contributed to the success of this fundraiser in whatever way they felt possible. Thank you!

2016 Friendship Walk

We’d like to recognize and thank former paralympic medal winner and well known radio broadcaster Rob Snoek, for sharing in our day as MC extraordinaire and for joining us on the 3K route along with Google and the rest of our walkers.  As well, we so appreciate the support of Celina Caesar-Chavannes (MP-Whitby),  Lorne Coe (MPP-Whitby/Oshawa),  our Town of Whitby Mayor, Don Mitchell, and Town of  Whitby Council members, Derrick Gleed, Elizabeth Roy and Rhonda Mulcahy, who supported us on this lovely, event filled day.

Thank You!

thank you…to the very talented musicians of Workin’ Dawgs, who have performed at our Walk each year…your music is amazing!

…to the owners/staff of Starr Burger, who also join us every year to provide our guests with a delicious BBQ served with a great big smile!

…to the many corporate supporters who have been with us from the very beginning and to the new supporters who have come on board for 2016.

Of course we can’t forget the AMAZING Nova’s Ark Volunteer Force… the tremendous adult and youth volunteers who set-up/tore down, answered questions, shared stories, handled registrations, worked with the animals, baked goods, and ran the sales and craft tables.  We couldn’t do it without you!

This was our 6th very successful Friendship Walk and we plan to continue the tradition in June of 2017.   So until next time…please take a moment to enjoy these highlights from this very wonderful event!

Our Community Supporters…

It was our pleasure to meet with members of the Canadian Motorcycle Cruisers, Chapter 050.  This wonderful group worked to raise money for Nova’s Ark and presented us with a substantial donation (pictured below).  Many thanks to this amazing group who have continued to support us for 3 years running.  You truly make a difference!

thank-youWe’d also like to recognize, Scott from CMC-Chapter 50 who canvassed his workplace to support Nova’s Ark as a worthy charity.  As a result, Nova’s Ark was the lucky recipient of a $5,000.00  donation from The Tenaquip Foundation on behalf of the employees of SCN Industrial and Tenaquip Ltd in Ajax.  We are so very grateful for his assistance and for the support of The Tenaquip Foundation.

Volunteers above and beyond!

Now that the winter weather has arrived, many of our therapy animals have moved inside to warm havens in the barn and other outbuildings.  This is the time when major work can be done to outside enclosures.  Last week, our long-time volunteer Declan arrived to head a crew to clear the guinea pig enclosure.  Declan manned the tractor, while his faithful crew of youth volunteers moved out over 30 wheelbarrows of manure.  It was hard, smelly work and these amazing volunteers worked all day in -10 C weather.  The result…a guinea pig enclosure all ready for Spring!

HD LogoOn Wednesday, November 25, fifteen volunteers from The Home Depot, Whitby South & North Stores shared their heart and belief in Nova’s Ark by volunteering their day to design and build a much needed bicycle shelter.  A huge thank you to Team Captains: Kathryn and Dave and their amazing volunteers for this incredible addition to our facility.  After the hard work was completed, the Home Depot volunteers were able to finish their time here touring the facility, meeting our special guests and interacting with our therapy animals.

Thank you Home Depot…you truly made a difference!
