At Nova’s Ark, our mission states that we are committed to building acceptance of people of all ages and abilities by providing opportunities for understanding. Through the use of our volunteers as mentors, we aid in the development of others and give everyone a sense of belonging. At Nova’s Ark, there are no social classes or cliques, there are no colours, no disabilities. We are all equal and we are all here for one reason; to build acceptance.
Our mentors are a key component to the success of our circles of friends. They are actively involved during Spring Camp, Summer Camp and Special Day Events. Our youth mentors create circles of friends to support our special participants. Three to five mentors of various levels of experience, per camper, create meaningful and purposeful experiences.
Experiences would include;
- sharing a good book
- handling an animal
- playing on the trampoline
- creating artwork
- going for a walk
- playing group games
Our youth mentors gain experience in communication, flexibility and underst
anding. They learn valuable life skills that can be applied to every aspect of life. The mentors become advocates for creating a better world for all to live in. Through our programs, our mentors become great leaders. They exercise their skills daily at school, in the community, and at work.
